Updated Stores Provide Improved Customer Experience

During 2020, a few of our NightOwl sites were updated and given complete renovations. Wakerley and Stones Corner were two of these stores. The updates have brought improvement both in daily customer numbers and the resulting sales figures. 

The complete Wakerley renovation has had the effect of encouraging customers to shop more regularly as they enjoy the updated environment, it is all part of a great customer experience. The site changes include:

  • New wider layouts, and new product racking
  • Fresh paint, tiled floors with way-finders, and brighter lighting.
  • Built in fridges and freezers with rear load capacity and extra storage capacity
  • Space for coffee preparation and a new coffee machine
  • Updated Funzones have been installed for Ice-cream and FrostBites
  • Enhanced counters inbuilt for confectionary, cold food selections, and new hot boxes for hot food offers.
  • New bowsers, hoses and fuel lines, and the addition of U95

Wakerley previously struggled to display the company planogrammed stock, now it is able to display every sub department throughout the entire store. There is more space for much more stock. Before the renovations, a dairy case and a couple of supplier fridges stocked the drinks range. Now there is a full wall of drinks in an enclosed cold room.  Customers can easily see the drink they want and this has brought massive growth in this area for this store. Dairy, meals and fruit all display beautifully in a closed-in dairy case so the full planogram dairy range is now together in one location. The every popular frozen drinks are now displayed to our Nightowl standards. The updated Funzone creates the correct NightOwl atmosphere & experience for our customers.


The Food Service area is displaying beautifully, to the Nightowl standards. Displaying the full range and correct hot food offering is resulting in a solid sales growth in this area. As before the renovation, a pie & sausage roll hot display was all that could be accommodated. Also, Wakerley now has a coffee offer, the store previously didn’t sell coffee so now there is a new exciting area of growth.

The new layout and space provides room for a side gondola that displays the full range of Supercheap & Shell oil. These products are selling extremely well, and sales are growing. The ranges of Groceries, Health & Beauty, Confectionary, Chips, Milk, Bread, and Freezer have all been extended. The larger ranges have well increased shop sales on a weekly basis. This store has built a name for itself in the local area for having the cheapest fuel, which has certainly increased traffic flow every week. The increased traffic for fuel has increased shop sales. Wakerley’s customer count has more than doubled from a year ago, a terrific result.

 

Stones Corner NightOwl is another location recently renovated, this site
is in a shopping complex with a Subway and a NoodleBox.  The store was looking very tired before its renovation, it was dark and the fixtures and fittings were old, and worn. There was no room or ability to grow some of the new departments ie hot food, meals, and drinks. Every bit of space before the renovation was used aggressively to merchandise stock sales. The full store renovation has turned around the customer shopping experience, the bright store is welcoming, modern, and the fully equipped well laid out store maximises customer flow.
Customers are continually commenting on how good the
shop looks now!

As new hot food equipment was installed, the Franchisee has been able to develop and grow his hot food department which has exploded growth in this area. Although the store is not carrying much more stock weight than the old store, some categories have been able to be bulked up; meaning all categories are now well presented to the customer.

 Similar to Wakerley, site changes include: 

  • New wider layouts, and new product racking
  • Fresh paint, tiled floors with way-finders, and brighter lighting. A more modern look.
  • New cold rooms, with new refrigeration equipment.
  • Space for coffee preparation and a new coffee machine
  • An updated Funzone was installed for Ice-cream and FrostBites
  • Enhanced counters were inbuilt for confectionary, cold food selections, and new hot boxes for hot food offers.
